# Choose by your model

Agent J brings no model of its own. The thinking is done by the AI coding tool on your computer (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Kimi Code or Qwen Code), and the model behind it runs on your own account, paid by you. This page sends you to the right page for the account you have.

## Where you are {#where}

- **Where Claude Code or Codex work**: keep using them; you do not need these pages. Follow [Install](/docs/install/).
- **Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau**: Claude Code and Codex are not offered there. Once Agent J is installed, ask the Agent to run `agentj agent route`; it tests which services this computer can reach. Then pick a vendor from the table below.

Agent J never suggests a VPN, a proxy or an account from another region.

## None yet: what we recommend {#recommend}

- **Mainland China: a Volcano Ark Coding Plan, Lite to start.** See [Volcano Ark](/docs/ark/).
- **Hong Kong or abroad: a Kimi membership, Plus or higher (billed in US dollars).** See [Kimi](/docs/kimi/).
- **Privacy matters most to you, or you want Alibaba's own Qwen Code: an Alibaba Cloud Bailian Token Plan.** Read its data terms first; see [Alibaba Bailian](/docs/bailian/).

Why (our own test on a computer on 2026-10-16, plus each vendor's official pages):

- **Volcano Ark**: Lite's list price is about the same as Bailian Lite, and the first two months cost less during the current promotion (it has an end date). One key opens 16 models from five vendors (Doubao, Kimi, Zhipu GLM, DeepSeek, MiniMax), so you can change models inside the same plan. The default, Doubao Seed 2.1 Pro, read our test screenshot and wrote and ran code. It works in OpenCode and in Claude Code. Lite and Pro have the same models and tools; Pro only gives five times the usage, so upgrade when you run short.
- **Kimi**: the only one of the three whose overseas site Agent J supports out of the box. Kimi's coding models read screenshots, and Moonshot has its own Kimi Code. Seen from outside the mainland, kimi.com and kimi.ai both bill in US dollars.
- **Alibaba Bailian**: the key can be checked the moment you paste it, and Alibaba has its own Qwen Code. But while you subscribe, your inputs and outputs are used by Alibaba Cloud to improve its models.

All three monthly plans are for you, working interactively in a coding tool. Unattended work such as scheduled tasks or support bots needs a pay-as-you-go key, and Agent J never hands a monthly-plan key to scheduled tasks or bots.

## Keys never go into the chat {#key}

No vendor's key ever goes into the chat or into a command line. Volcano Ark, Kimi and Alibaba Bailian keys go only into the key card that opens on your phone; a DeepSeek open platform key is given to OpenCode in your own terminal, see [DeepSeek](/docs/deepseek/#hand-over). How the key card works: [Admin rights and API keys, from your phone](/docs/phone-admin/). If a key ever landed in the chat, delete it in that vendor's console and create a new one.
