# The support chat

The support chat is a chat window on agentj.app that answers questions about Agent J: what it is, what it costs, how to install it, how to pair a phone, why it won't connect, what an error in your terminal means. Nothing to install, no account needed, and it's free.

When the Agent on your Agent J host runs into trouble it asks the support desk itself with `agentj support` — see [Getting help from the support desk](/docs/support/). This window is for people: use it in a browser when the Agent isn't installed yet, can't connect, or you simply want to ask something yourself.

## Opening it {#open}

- On any page of agentj.app, press the Agent J button at the bottom right. A phone-sized chat window opens on top of the page.
- Or go to [https://support.agentj.app](https://support.agentj.app). It takes you to [https://agentj.app/support/](https://agentj.app/support/), the full-page version — easier to read on a big screen when an answer is long or you're working through it in a terminal.

Both are the same chat, with the same level, limits and history. To start over, press **New chat**.

Use **Full screen (new tab)** in the title bar to open [Support chat](/support/?lang=en) in a new tab. The original website and panel stay as they are so you can keep browsing. The new tab keeps the conversation, daily allowance and verified email; no new email verification is needed. The button is hidden on phones, where the panel is already nearly full screen. Text uses the available container width. Answers start with 2–4 direct lines, followed by up to 5 short steps when needed. For further detail, the assistant asks “Would you like detailed steps?” and keeps documentation links.

## The four levels {#tiers}

Your level is worked out from who you are; there's nothing to choose. All four are free.

| Level | Who | Per message | Pace | Per day | Screenshots | Kept for | Talk to a person |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guest | You've given nothing | 2,500 characters | 1 every 60 s | 20 | No | 7 days | No |
| Verified email | You verified an email address that has no seat | 5,000 characters | 2 every 60 s | 40 | No | 30 days | Yes |
| Signed in | You're signed in to an account on agentj.app that has no seat | 10,000 characters | 1 every 30 s | 100 | No | 30 days | Yes |
| Seat holder | Your account, or your verified email address, has a bound seat | 10,000 characters | 1 every 30 s | 200 | Up to 50 in 24 hours | 30 days | Yes |

- Seat holders are answered by Doubao, a paid and steadier model; if Doubao has trouble, DeepSeek takes over. The other three levels use free models; when those are busy you may get DeepSeek or only links to the docs.
- If you send again before the pace allows, the message isn't refused — it waits in line: the bubble shows "Queued · sends in N s" and goes out by itself when the time comes; until then you can take it back or edit it. Several messages sent within one wait are joined, in order, into one message and count as one; if together they go over your level's per-message limit, you're asked to shorten them. If you close or reload the window before they go out, the queued text stays in this browser as a draft and is never sent on its own.
- The daily count resets at midnight Tokyo time.
- There's no voice on the web.
- Screenshots are for seat holders only. If the window has no screenshot button, screenshots aren't open yet (it says "Screenshots are coming soon"); paste the text from the screenshot instead.

## The human check {#human-check}

Guests and verified-email users pass a quick human check before their first question, and again after every 10 questions or once a day. Signed-in users and seat holders skip it.

Those two levels also share a limit per network: everyone on the same network together gets at most 6 messages a minute and 120 a day. On a busy office or school network you may hit this one first.

## Verifying your email {#email}

Press **Verify email** and enter your address. We mail you a 6-digit code; it works for 10 minutes, and 5 wrong tries cancel it. Once verified, this browser counts as a verified email for 30 days.

That's a support pass, not an Agent J account, and it doesn't create one. If the address already has a bound seat, you go straight to the seat holder level.

Verifying your email keeps the guest text-answer route available. Seat holders try Doubao and DeepSeek first, then the guest text route if both are unavailable. An upstream timeout produces a clear message or documentation links; an unsuccessful answer does not use your daily allowance.

## Talking to a person {#person}

With a verified email, or when you're signed in, press **Talk to a person** and add a line about what you want someone to look at. We pass that line and the recent conversation (with keys and similar secrets removed) to a member of the support team, and the reply comes to your email. You can do this up to 3 times a day. Guests need to verify an email first.

## Stuck in a terminal {#terminal}

Press **I'm stuck in a terminal**. The chat gives you one command at a time, says what you should see, and tells you what to paste back next.

If your Agent J host is offline but still has internet, first run this line in a terminal on that Agent J host (for Windows see [Emergency rescue](https://agentj.app/rescue/)):

```bash
curl -fsSL https://agentj.app/rescue | sh
```

It checks the Agent J host, repairs what is safe to repair and ends with a ticket number — paste that number into the chat. If it won't run, copy the text from your terminal into the chat instead, after removing any passwords, keys and codes from it.

## Privacy and how long chats are kept {#privacy}

- Don't paste API keys, tokens, passwords, pairing codes or setup codes. If one slips in, the window hides it before sending and our server hides it again on arrival — but to be safe, change that key or password right away.
- How long a conversation is kept depends on your level (see the table): 7 days for guests, 30 days for everyone else. Then it's deleted automatically. A support thread created when you ask for a person is kept 30 days.
- Once you verify an email, the address is kept with the 30-day support pass. Apart from that we keep only a keyed hash of a random device ID and of your IP range, for rate limits; a device record is deleted after 60 days without use.
- Screenshots are only passed to the vision model to write the answer; we don't store them.
- Kept conversations are used only to answer you and to improve the docs. They are never used to train models.
- The chat can't see your Agent J host; it only sees the text you send.

To write an answer, your question (with keys, email addresses and phone numbers already hidden) goes to these services: TypeSafe checks whether it's about Agent J (guests and verified email) and whether it's malicious (all levels); without a seat, the answer comes from OpenCode's free models first (preferring ones that keep no conversations) and from DeepSeek when they're busy; for seat holders, text and screenshots go to Doubao on Volcengine Ark, and to DeepSeek if Doubao has trouble. Each service handles requests under its own terms. The full list is in [Support chat on the website](/privacy/#support-chat) in the privacy policy.

## What it won't do {#not}

- It only answers questions about Agent J. Ask about anything else and you get one fixed reply: **This window only handles questions about Agent J.**
- It can't handle refunds, special pricing, seat changes or changes to your account. For those, email feedback@agentj.app, or verify your email and press **Talk to a person**.
- Its answers are advice. Run a command only once you understand it; it won't ask you to run deleting commands like `sudo rm`, or scripts from anywhere other than agentj.app.
- When the day's support capacity is used up, or the model is busy, it replies with links to the relevant docs first. You can also go straight to the [docs home](/docs/) or the [FAQ](/docs/faq/).

If Agent J is already installed, you can also ask your Agent to report it to the Agent J developers, or send `/feedback-to-agentj-father <what happened>` from your phone: Agent J Father is the official feedback and support platform, and your Agent removes keys and personal details before sending. See [Support and feedback](/docs/support/).
